Recording and Annotation Issues and Concerns:
Maintaining the integrity of the court record is one of the association's main goals. This means improvements in the recordings and annotations. There have been numerous concerns voiced from ACTs, from all over the province, ordering parties and the judiciary with regard to the poor quality of the recordings and annotations often created.
We are requesting that any ACTs who feel they have issues and are frustrated with the quality of the recordings and annotations, please use the Recording and Annotation Deficiency Report, email it to [email protected] when you find you have any issues with the annotations (missing or incorrect spellings of names, missing or incorrect spellings of case law, etc. poor recordings, echoing, crackling, mics not working) we will try to get this improved for all of us, so that we can continue to produced the best quality transcripts possible, so that counsel and the judiciary can rely on the transcripts we produce from the best quality recordings and annotations, this is our main goal. If you wish to remain anonymous, when we send the reports in, just let us know, we will not release your names.
We want to communicate to the supervisors in the most professional, reasonable, respectful manner possible, exactly what these issues are, with proof/evidence, so we can inspire and promote improvements. We will also communicate these concerns with Court Reporting Services and Managers and Supervisors and the Ministry of the Attorney General. It's important to note that members of the judiciary have also voiced concerns with the quality of the record, which, as we know is the recordings and annotations, they form the record, the judiciary are also seeking improvements.
When we do not see improvements in the annotation and recordings - the court record, we will be sending a number these Recording and Annotations Deficiency Reports to the Office of the Chief Justice in an effort to gain assistance while working towards improvements with the quality of the recordings and annotations.
We are working towards making things better.

**ACT ASSISTANCE REQUESTED**
Legal Aid "rates" and Regulation 94/14 Fees for Court Transcripts:
According to the regulation set by the Ministry of the Attorney General, fees for Ontario court transcripts, no other fees/or rates may apply. All ordering parties pay the same fee; equal access to justice.
It has become apparent that Legal Aid "rates" may often not pay out the same as the regulation. In fact, Legal Aid "rates" are a misinterpretation of the regulation, which is unambitious, resulting in ACTs being paid less than what the regulation states (and/or counsel are at a loss due to LAO paying out less, when counsel pays the ACT in full according to the regulation, as the ACTs properly invoice).
ACTs who have experienced being paid less (or know of any counsel who have been paid out less) than the regulation due to Legal Aid "rates" please email [email protected] to discuss.
